Long Term Forecast
High pressure in the Gulf of Alaska will strengthen and move eastward early next week in response to a deepening Bering Sea trough. Through mid-week, the trough will allow for increasing chances of rainfall and strong winds throughout the Aleutians, the Alaska Peninsula and Southwest Alaska as the ridge over the Gulf of Alaska moves across Southcentral. Ahead of the trough's mid- week passing, persistent southwest flow across the Aleutians and into Southwest Alaska will result in continued onshore wind and rain these areas. Additionally in the wake of the trough's passing, weak waves of low pressure will bring reinforcing periods of increased winds and rain through week's end despite a general zonal flow returning to the area.
A drier period for early next week is expected in most of Southcentral. Rain coverage and strong winds will begin to increase first in Kodiak and Kenai Peninsula and also in the far western areas of Southcentral across the Alaska Range. Towards mid-week, rain and wind begin to cover more of Southcentral reaching Prince William Sound and the Copper River Basin by the end of next week.
Aviation
PANC. While good visual flying conditions conditions are mostly anticipated through the airport forecasts period, there is a chance (10 to 30%) that fog could develop around the terminal this morning. If fog does develop near or over the terminal, conditions will improve through mid-morning as the sun comes up and the fog begins to burn off with day-time heating.
