The ridge over the southwest CONUS continues to keep the Ark-La-Tx dry apart from the few showers seen this morning. The ridge working with continued southerly flow at the surface will keep heat as the primary hazard for much of the forecast period beginning tomorrow. A Heat Advisory has been issued areawide for Sunday and will be re-evaluated for extension in future forecast packages, but very little is expected to change through the short- term. If there are any outdoor plans for this week, make sure to take precautions and frequent breaks from the heat to prevent heat-related illness. Also be sure to check on neighbors and loved ones. Children, the elderly, and people with chronic health conditions are more susceptible to heat-related illness and complications.
Long-range models have the wavelength of the ridge out west decreasing by mid-week. This would bring northwest flow back to the region and open the door for rain should any disturbances in that flow occur. Any rain and increased cloud cover could offer a brief reprieve from the heat. The heavy rainfall in recent months has worked to lesson drought conditions but they will likely begin to worsen again with prolonged heat and minimal rain.
